About Chronic Connection

Chronic Connection provides a multitude of services that help teens and young adults dealing with chronic illness. As a life coach, our role is that of a “connector” and “facilitator” and empowers young people to reach and/or re-create their life goals and dreams, despite their diagnosis.

Denise Archilla, MSW, earned her Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from Auburn University in 1985, double majoring in Biology and Health Education. After volunteering at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama/UAB, she pursued her Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Alabama.

As a clinical social worker, Denise worked in pediatric medicine for many years at Arnold Palmer Hospital (APH) for Children, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, and Johns Hopkins Outpatient Centers. She assisted in forming the first multidisciplinary team for Cystic Fibrosis at APH. She also worked in private practice, providing counseling for children and families. Eventually, Denise began teaching, earning Montessori Certification (6-9), in order to have a more flexible schedule for her young children.

In 2008, she co-founded Spark! Family Enrichment Center and continued to teach and work with children and families for several years, developing many programs to enhance and enrich children’s lives. She worked with and was inspired by many children and families dealing with chronic conditions there and met two of her greatest inspirations, Dawn and Sadie Veselka of the Body Check Journal™ and Sadie’s Style™ . It was their enduring courage and conviction to help others dealing with chronic illnesses while also dealing with their own that drew Denise’s attention back to the medical arena. While there are many other angels that have touched her life profoundly, this program is also inspired by Charlotte and Aubrey who lost their battle with CF much too early.

Today as a Certified Adolescent Life Coach and founder of Chronic Connection, LLC Denise feels that it is the culmination of the many years of working with children and their families and, as the mother of two teens, realizes the need for specific programs aimed at empowering them despite the obstacles they face. She believes that building confidence is the key to empowerment and that despite living with a chronic illness, teens can be successful in their endeavors and fulfill their dreams.
